Privacy Policy

Good Soil ("we", "us", "the app") is an independently run Bible study platform. This policy explains what information we collect through the Good Soil website and Android app, why we collect it, who else sees it, and the choices you have. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to UFIC or its leadership; see the About page for details on that.

If anything here is unclear, email us at [email protected].

Information we collect

Account information. If you create an account: your email address, a password (see Security below for how it's stored), and an optional display name.

Content you create. Notes, highlights, schedule entries, prayer requests, and the questions you ask our AI features and the answers they generate. Prayer requests may optionally include a name and a contact detail if you choose to provide one.

What we do not collect. We don't use advertising SDKs, don't collect device advertising IDs, don't track your location, and don't run third-party analytics. There is no cross-app or cross-site tracking.

What never leaves your device. If you enable biometric unlock in the app, that's handled entirely by your device's own operating system — we never receive your fingerprint, face data, or anything related to it.

How we use it

To run the core features: signing you in, syncing your notes and schedule across devices, showing the prayer wall, and answering the questions you ask.

To email you when necessary: verifying your address, password resets, one-time codes if you enable extra sign-in security, and — only if you turn them on in Account settings — reminder or digest emails. These are off unless you enable them, and you can turn them off at any time.

To keep the service usable: we briefly track request counts by IP address to stop spam and abuse (for example, on the contact form and content reporting). That count lives in short-lived server memory only — it is never written to our database or tied to your account.

AI features and third-party processing

When you ask a question, request an AI explanation, or open a devotional's "Explore" prompts, the text of your question and the relevant scripture or devotional/sermon content is sent to an AI provider to generate a response. We currently use:

We send the question text and the content needed to answer it — not your email, name, or account identifiers. These providers process that text under their own privacy policies, linked above, to return an answer to us.

The four preset prompts on each devotional and sermon (Simple Explanation, Practical Application, Kids Story Version, Test Your Knowledge) are generated once per item and reused for every user who opens that same prompt, rather than generated again for each person — this keeps things fast and avoids sending the same request repeatedly. Your own free-form questions are private to your account and are not shown to other users.

Prayer wall

Prayer requests are reviewed before they appear publicly. Only your display name (or "Anonymous" if you leave it blank) and the prayer text are shown on the public wall — any contact detail you provide is visible only to us, for follow-up, never displayed publicly.

You can report a prayer wall post or an AI answer you find objectionable, and you can block another user, which hides their posts from your own view of the wall.

Crash reports

Test builds of the Android app may include optional crash reporting, used to catch bugs before a wider release. When enabled, a crash report includes the error details, the app version, and your Android version — never your name, email, notes, searches, or which passage you were reading. Performance tracking and screenshots are switched off entirely; only the fact and shape of a crash is ever sent.

Cookies and local storage

Website. We use your browser's local storage — not third-party cookies — to remember your theme preference, whether you've acknowledged the disclaimer banner, and to cache public content on your device so pages load faster when you're offline. None of this is used for advertising or tracking you across other sites.

App. Your sign-in token is stored securely on your device (using your device's own secure storage, e.g. the Android Keystore), and Bible text plus your own notes are cached locally so the app works offline.

How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your account and its content for as long as your account is active.

You can permanently delete your account at any time — from the app's About screen, or on the web at goodsoil.quest/account — with no need to install the app first. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your notes, highlights, schedule entries, prayer requests, AI conversation history, and your sign-in details. This cannot be undone.

Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage — we cannot see or recover your actual password. Traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. You can enable an extra one-time-code step at sign-in from Account settings.

Your choices

You can use the Bible, devotionals, and sermons without creating an account. You can turn reminder emails on or off, delete individual notes or highlights, and delete your entire account and its data at any time, as described above. To request a copy of your data or ask us anything else about it, email [email protected].

Children's privacy

Good Soil is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
